Sorry, I haven't abandoned you....

Hi, I've been hastily working on designing a website for some friends' new business, so little time for blogging, but I haven't gone anywhere I promise!  I finished the preliminaries today, so back to the studio--it's that time of year now to make another therapeutic art quilt in memory of my niece.  So far, I've batiked the tree and dyed it using the Arashi Shibori method.  Here's what it looks like now, this is only the beginning....

This is my newest piece, just completed today.  I love the scriptures in this piece, so very comforting to those who are grieving one type of loss or another.

I've been playing around with this fun little piece that features a bird on a limb and really fun and colorful commercial fabrics.  It's a bit of a departure from my other work, but it's using one of my favorite techniques, reverse applique.  It involves cutting away underlying bits of fabric from the top pieces.  This particular piece incorporates eight different fabrics, which I've pictured here, so you can get an idea of all that's going into it.  I'll post more as I progress along on this one.  This is a fun piece that I'm enjoying working on, it's sort of been an "on again, off again" piece for me, and I'm ready to finish it soon.  The word "free" has come to my mind over and over in working with this piece, so I'm ready to see where it goes.

Underlying fabric 6, added to the top fabric layer, and the extra layer on the bird's wing makes eight fabrics all together.

This is exciting!  This is the very first art blog I have ever written!  So, stick with me as I try to make this part of my site interesting.  Over the next several weeks and beyond, I'll be adding info and pictures about the things I'm working on and maybe some studio shots, and things like that.  It will be a challenge fitting this into everything else going on now, but we'll see how it goes.  Thank you for reading and sharing my journey!
